Cebu Bikers' Trail blazed 2nd Outreach Event

On its second outreach project, Cebu Bikers joined hand in hand with Gawad-Kalinga in their ongoing
housing project for the less fortunate located in Tubodville, Toledo City. Considered to be this year's Cebu Bikers working hand in hand.highlight community project, the CebuBikers online community of motorcycle enthusiasts conceived this activity for months right when the idea initially came up early this year and CB started to contact Gawad-Kalinga for possible volunteer work. Since then, it was non-stop planning and preparation for all of us starting with the actual site visit by the CB Admin Team and GK Orientation general assembly with members of the CebuBikers Community to last minute ride and group organizing, setting of expectations and itineraries that finally culminated to the actual CB-GK Outreach at the housing project in Tubodville, Toledo City held last August 30, 2009.

The level of support, enthusiasm, commitment and undaunted dedication to help was overwhelming as almost sixty CB registered riders (not including family and friends) showed up with their shovels and powers to participate in the manual labor.

"La ko nag expect nga daghan ang mangapil.. 57 kabuok, daghan jud and i thought, dili au hago ang buhatonon didto mao kumpyansa ra nga wai tulog, pero in ato diay, di sad to lalim..! (I didn't expect such a big turnout from the riders. And I thought there's not much to do so I was confident not getting enough sleep as I came from work. But it struck me, it wasn't easy for sure!) -Mejie, CB member.

Although just a half day affair, it was no easy feat as the participants had to endure the heat and deal with the steep terrain in moving the construction materials. Some of them just came from work and didn't have a wink's sleep, while others had to report for work later that day but it didn't stop them from going. No matter what the circumstances were, unexpected or not, more and more CB members flocked to our tambayan at Jollibee-Kartzone in Mabolo as early as six in the morning to participate in this activity. By seven, the ride was on the go.

When we arrived at the housing project in Toledo, everybody put their hearts into the job, sweat by the gallons to the point of being completely drained and muscles, including stomachs, started to scream. Some riders dug the earth to lay out the foundations of the house units; others lifted hollow blocks and sacks of sand and gravel and carried them up the steep path to where the construction site was.

"I only thought of joining the program to bond with the other members; I ended up liking the job and doing whatever there was to get the job done." - Ryan, CB newbie member.

"Honestly I was in awe sa mga sacrifices na gihimo sa atong mga kauban especially sa mga ladies.. beyond my expectation simply amazing jud." (Honestly, I was in awe of the sacrifices made by our fellow CB member and participants, especially the ladies..it's beyond my expectation, simply amazing.) -rsalcedo9070, CB member and gloves-provider.

What heavy backbreaking tasks and exhaustion there was during the course of the outreach was made light by bloopers, shared packed lunches, an over-all atmosphere of fun, laughter and camaraderie that far outweighed the massive loads we lifted. Halfway through the afternoon, after having lunch, a little rest and major picture taking, we started our ride back home with a wonderful sense of satisfaction and fulfillment upon the culmination of a long, exhausting day. Definitely, it was all worth it. We managed to put a marker and reach the peak of this activity. We were able to share with the community what we can do. We hope we were of help to the people in Tubodville with our efforts and hard work; we wish the future occupants of the housing project all the best.

The CB Admin Team would like to thank all CB members who went out of their way in making this outreach program a success. To everybody who participated - Dubsters, PSRC, independent riders and members of the CebuBikers Community thank you very much. May we continue to watch out for each other and spread our light outside our circle. CebuBikers.com would also like to thank Gawad-Kalinga for their support and partnership.

More power to us all! See you in the next outreach program! Ride safe!
